Freelance English Speaking Tour Guide needed for group tours in Hong Kong and Mainland China
We are looking for an enthusiastic guide to work with us on our school tours to Hong Kong and China.
Think Outside The Classroom is a specialist school trip company based in the UK, organising group visits to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai for foreign high school students with accompanying teachers. Your role as their guide will be to provide them with a memorable and fun experience whilst leading the group from place to place, managing timings, and offering translation between Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) and English as needed.
Key responsibilities:
> Conduct guided tours in various areas of one of the cities listed, or multiple, including street tours, tours of cultural attractions, and working with Chinese speaking guides and offering translation in some locations
> Engage with students, providing them with an informative and enjoyable experience
> Be comfortable leading the group on streets and public transport
> Assist with restaurant and attraction group bookings, including making arrangements for specific dietary needs
> Meet and welcome groups at the airport, which may be at unsociable hours
> Be ready to deal with small questions and problems faced by the group and adapt the tour accordingly
Essential:
> Familiarity with one or more of the cities listed
> Right to work in China and/or Hong Kong
> Fluent in English and Cantonese/Mandarin Chinese
> Excellent organisation and time management
> Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
> Flexible schedule that allows for conducting tours as needed
> Ability to react and plan around unexpected situations to deliver a smooth tour experience
Desirable:
> Experience working with high school students
> Willingness to travel to other locations in China
> Ability to communicate in Spanish
This is not a full time position, and we would work with you a minimum of three months in advance to agree tour dates and payment, depending on duration and requirements of each tour. Some tours may require travel to other locations in China - you would receive accommodation, food and travel allowances on top of your agreed daily rate for such tours.
